And that's the thing that's driving the whole motor of the dairy cow.
Significant.
And that could be, as you said, from a health perspective.
It could be from a digestive efficiency perspective.
But if those microbes aren't humming, we're in big trouble.
Five to 20% depending on how severe the heat stress actually is.
So that's a big no-no.
But it's important to note that that's actually two things are driving that.
First of all, it's the decrease in dry matter intake, but also it's an increase in the maintenance energy requirements that animal has for panting.
Yeah, so from a fertility perspective, it can result in early embryonic death.
So we lose early pregnancies.
Now to say that, where we are right now at the start of July, we're not completely out of the woods.
Even though we're past most of early pregnancy,
Fetuses or embryos don't do well with spikes in temperature.
So I suppose I've started to really work on heat stress or been dealing with heat stress on farms for probably the best part of 10 years but it's been getting progressively worse and I'm sure anyone who's listening here, any dairy farmers who are listening would definitely say the last five years have been a real, real struggle.
Certain farms struggle more, particularly sort of indoor systems and stuff like that.
But in seeing that, it seems to be this recurrent issue with very, very little strategy as to how we can actually mitigate against it.
Oh, absolutely not.
As I said, embryos don't do well with any form of spikes at all.
