And I remember he told me his dad had told him when he was growing up in the restaurant industry to never, ever forget what it's like to do every single job in the restaurant for that exact reason that you're talking about.
And actually to take notes on that and to review those notes so that he would go back
to those notes at times when he's the bus boy, right?
When he's all of a sudden the host or hostess, you know, right?
Welcoming people into the restaurant.
He could even cook a little bit, right?
Bartend.
Being able and willing to do all of those jobs.
It's like General Crystal.
He would go on the front lines, right, which is very dangerous as a four-star general.
Normally, they don't do that, but that's how you understand.
That's how you earn respect.
That's how you show your people that you're with them.
Yeah, I mean, my dad told me that, too.
When I got promoted for the first time, he'd say, hey, dude, you're going to get pulled into all these crazy meetings because now you're a manager.
All these meetings all throughout the company.
Remember, your number one job is to be with your people and with your customers.
Never, ever, ever forget that.
Be with your people as much as humanly possible.
