The forest is deep and heavily wooded.

Albeit founded in seventeen forty seven, the man the village would be named after, Burke Greeley, never set foot in the Americas.
Though a wealthy landowner granted title holdings by the crown, the Greeley Patriarch had no designs on the new world.
It was not until his descendants, children, or grandchildren, I know not, that
fled Britain under circumstances of religious persecution, that the land came into use.
The Greeley family built several farms on the land despite protests from the local Indian tribe.
The Mohawks who had lived in the area prior to the arrival of good Christians used the valley to bury their dead, and tried to scare off settlers with wild claims of spirits lurking in the woods and
Superstitious savages.
Some claim this led them to place a curse on the valley and
The earliest settlers in Greeley laughed at the idea of evil spirits hiding in the forest and built a church in the middle of what served as a town square as a sign of defiance.
God's protection would serve as a bulwark against any old vengeful pagan gods.
There might have been something to the idea of a curse as the consumption ravaged the town a few years later with.
The town had grown to over two dozen families, but was reduced to less than a handful in only a year's time.
If disease was not enough, life itself was hard.
