GUILT
S6 | E26 | A Bit Screwy

He starts with the words, back in 1998.

Frank has assured me that this was a simple mistake, and when he wrote this down many years later, he had forgotten the year of Jessica's disappearance, but was clear that it was indeed that night in 1999.

He then says in the letter, Even at the time of writing this, he wasn't 100% sure, and I believe we can now say for certain that it was in fact not Laurie that told him this story.

He goes on to say, he walked up the slope to the left to get on the veranda as there were no steps.

GUILT

The earliest photo I have from Google Street View shows that at least in 2008 there were steps, however it's quite possible they weren't there in 1999.

And if so, then his description of walking up to the left of the veranda to knock would be accurate.

He says that Laurie's son opened the door and said he was in his workshop, so Frank drove down the driveway and found him round the back.

Frank then also described being able to access the back of the property from the street behind, and it turns out that that was also accurate.

So then it seems that indeed, Frank is describing the same house.

So then what's going on with this story?

GUILT
S6 | E26 | A Bit Screwy

Why doesn't it fit?

GUILT
S6 | E26 | A Bit Screwy

First off, let's just forget the name Laurie Paul.

GUILT

Even Frank wasn't sure when he wrote that letter.

GUILT

And I don't believe it's possible it was Laurie, given what his real son told me.

GUILT

He lived and died in a house on Mapleton Road.

Frank also said the man who answered the door he believed to be his son that day at the house was named David, and Laurie Poole didn't have a son David.

So if the man I met at the property recently has lived there since April 1998 and assured me no one else has since, and Frank's 100% on the address, then what?

GUILT
S6 | E26 | A Bit Screwy

Well, we're left with limited viable options.

GUILT

After receiving the information that they indeed bought the property in April of 1998, Frank sent me a follow-up message saying, When I delivered the roller door to the house, I was told they only had a month to stay there, so they probably arrived in July.

That's about three months after it was sold.
