And if they weren't, they opened the standings page this morning and were wondering what the hell has happened over the last week.
The Blue Jays started this week, this past week,
with a 10-game homestand against a mediocre mix of competition.
Every team on that schedule below .500, even the ones that on paper look a little better, like Houston and Texas, not playing their best baseball right now, not 100% healthy, etc.
And they entered that week with a one-game lead for the final wildcard spot.
And no, it doesn't matter a whole lot at the halfway point, but you'd rather head into that week and make up ground and grab tiebreakers and things like that.
Instead, the Blue Jays got behind in the first inning of every single game
and dropped six in a row.
So they've gone from one game up in the wild card to two and a half back.
They have blown a series against the Astros with two very winnable games there.
They have blown a series against the Rangers with several winnable games in that one.
They continue to dig themselves holes.
The offense is not strong enough right now
to hit their way out of it.
And we sit here heading into Canada Day Weekend, or Canada Day Week, which is always a big, fun series and always a great measuring stick for the season because it comes right around the halfway point, and it comes when school's out and the other sports' attention have dissipated or whatever, and all lives are on the Blue Jays the rest of the way, and they have dropped six in a row.
There's 39 and 45.
There is a lot to talk about.
