So Foxtel are expected to pay somewhere in the vicinity of $500 million a year.

Currently, they pay about half that.

Nine are expected to pay about $150, maybe a bit more than that for a few free-to-air games and the State of Origin and some finals.

And then there'll be a bit more from a broadcaster in New Zealand.

So it'll add up to about $700 a year, which is $4.9 billion over seven years.

What we don't know is how much of that is going to be in sort of free advertising.

They call it contra.

And, you know, there's probably a few other bits and pieces to be worked out.

But so we don't know how much of that's going to be in cash for the players and the clubs to divide up.

But either way you cut it, it's a massive deal.

It's a lot more than we're expecting.

And on paper, at least, it's more than the AFL is currently getting, which is the big win for Peter Blander.

Yeah, well, there was certainly a lot of competitive tension.

So Nine put in a bid.

Nine Entertainment is this media company.

It owns Stan, it owns Stan Sport, it owns the newspaper I work for, the AFR, and Channel 9, obviously.

So they put in a bid for everything.

They wanted to knock Foxtel out for the first time since the NRL began.

And they wanted to put it all on Stan Sport instead.

And so they offered some massive amount.
