Even on the Model 3 and the Model Y, where the handle looks like a mechanical unit, pulling it actually just triggers an electronic switch. matched

If a crash or a power failure kills that low voltage battery, opening the doors from the outside becomes impossible for first responders. matched

And that's a pretty genuine problem. matched

The front seats have electronic release buttons paired with a separate mechanical lever for emergencies. matched

But in the rear, older Teslas have electric-only buttons, and newer builds have a manual release cable underneath a felt mat in the door pocket. matched

But be honest, if you were a panicked passenger in the back of a Model Y feeling with smoke, would you know to dig under a felt mat? matched

Well, four big things, just four of them, not five, just four. matched

Any electronic release would also have to work mechanically through the same switch, not a separate hidden backup. matched

Interior releases would need to combine mechanical and electronic mechanisms into one control, rather than splitting them into different buttons and levers. matched

Clear, easily accessible emergency releases would be required in every seating row, front and rear. matched

And exterior handles would need to be more obvious and work mechanically when the power fails. matched
