So what does that mean?
They're trying to guarantee a minimum percentage of human drivers.
In New Jersey, state lawmakers are evaluating a three-year pilot program designed to establish an official regulatory framework for testing and deploying driverless vehicles.
Basically, that's their excuse anyway.
Uber lobbyists are proposing a major legislation requiring any platform offering robo-taxi services to have human drivers handle at least 85% of all rides during the pilot program.
Obviously, Tesla couldn't do this if they're using cybercaps because they don't have steering wheels.
If this was adopted, then this rule would force Tesla and Waymo to, I mean, these companies who have spent billions of dollars, it would force them to deploy, I don't know, what they'd do, I guess, to spend more money.
And Tesla couldn't use cybercabs, they'd have to just use the Model Y robot taxi, which is clearly not as good as what the cybercab is going to be.
This would be a challenge.
And I guess the idea here from Uber's point of view is to try and, you know, make that not just a pilot program rule, but also a general rule.
For Tesla, this proposal is coming on top of some significant issues in legislation that will ban their robot taxi vehicles from New Jersey unless they add more sensors to them.
In its current form, the draft requires commercial driverless vehicles, robot taxis, to be equipped with at least two distinct sensor modalities, LiDAR and radar.
alongside cameras, which means Tesla can't use their vehicles at all.
Not Model Ys, not cybercabs, nothing.
On the Electric Viking website, I'll put a link in the description below, we have more articles about electric cars and battery technology than any other website that I'm aware of in the world.
So check that out.
Link is in the description.
And there you'll find our videos and analysis and articles about everything going on in the EV world.
I'm curious to know, is this, are they going after Tesla here?
You know, is New Jersey going after Tesla?
