It went on sale in March 2024 and became a genuine surprise hit. matched

In its first full year, it was the sixth best-selling EV in the entire US market, sitting behind only the Tesla Model Y, Model 3, Hyundai or Hyundai IONIQ 5, and the Mazda Mach-E, and the Chevy Equinox EV. matched

Honda moved over 80,000 of them in two years. matched

In fact, a bit less than two years, more than 80,000. matched

And even now with sales down 48% year over year in the first half of 2026, it's still the eighth best selling EV in the US and Honda is killing a top 10 selling product. matched

That seems strange. matched

Maybe they're losing money on each sale. matched

That's what I suspect. matched

So why are they doing it? matched

Well, because the Prologue was never really a Honda, as I said before. matched

It's built on GM's Altium platform, the same bones as the Chevy and Cadillac EVs. matched

And with General Motors walking away from the Altium branding, Honda's borrowed EV strategy basically collapsed with it. matched

Honda had already ended production of the Acura ZDX last year. matched

This was based on another Altium model. matched

So it was also a General Motors vehicle. matched

And back in March, Honda scrapped its three most important next-generation EVs, which it spent billions developing, by the way, matched

the Zero Series SUV, Zero Series Sedan, and the Acura RSX. matched

These were supposed to be built on Honda's own dedicated platform, at its so-called EV hub in Ohio. matched

That factory will now build hybrids and petrol cars instead. matched

Interestingly, when Automotive News reported earlier this year that the Prologue was getting the axe, Honda dismissed it as pure speculation. matched
