Well, Abu Dhabi is answering that definitively.
They are pairing five point two gigawatts of solar.
with a total of nineteen gigawatt hours of utility scale battery storage to maintain a constant, unyielding, twenty-four hour clean baseload power supply.
I've been arguing for a long time now.
Solar and batteries, that is baseload.
The batteries become the base load.
And um even PhD students um like to say that I'm wrong, which I find very funny because Abu Dhabi says, Well, actually you're wrong.
No coal, no gas picker plants, no wind turbines.
Not that there's anything wrong with wind turbines.
Just pure solar energy, buffered by batteries, running a modern city all night long.
A modern city with millions of people, by the way.
