The money it makes every four years goes back into developing men's, women's and youth football across all 211 of its member associations every day of the year.
FIFA distributes prize money to the competing federations.

And the host cities which put the games on, they don't see very much of that money that Matt has just totaled up.
And this is where the money story gets really interesting.
Eleven cities in the United States, three in Canada and three in Mexico.
They all agreed to host.
They built the fan zones, retrofitted the stadiums, arranged transport, paid for security.
Under the contracts they signed with FIFA in 2017, before they even knew that they'd won the bid.
They received no share of the ticket revenue, no share of concession sales inside the stadiums, no share of parking, no share of merchandise.
All of that flows to FIFA and its commercial partners.
