Not trading Michael Walker isn't just about what your team looks like for 27.

I mean, the primary reason to trade him is because how much it could improve your team in the future, knowing that, of course, prospects are not a certainty by any means.

But this is part of the calculus you have to weigh as a GM is you've got to be honest with yourself about where your team is for 27 because if it's not a playoff team, then is 28 and beyond the right target?

I mean, go through, what's their ideal rotation, for example, next year?

But to be competitive for 27.

What's their ideal rotation if they're contending for 27?

gamble yeah i mean i think ideal is that you get a prospect that goes through a rise like that who's ready and by the way i mean it's not just about reaching the major leagues like you also have to have like a noah cameron like year yeah as a rookie um and i think noah cameron was assisted as a rookie by the fact he had enough pitches that he could throw backwards at times like he did against the rays when he flirted with the no hitter deep into that game

But it's getting like a similar season out of Michael Walker just turned 35, I think, on July 1st.

So he'll be 36 at the all-star break next year.

And it's getting a similar season out of him to where he doesn't have, you know, a descent the way that Seth Lugo has, you know, for the past 12 months.

It's having Seth Lugo have a return to form.

It's having Noah Cameron, who has a 5-2 ERA, look more like he did as a rookie.

And that's with whatever unnamed prospect that we're talking about.

And then you still have a fifth spot in your rotation.

I just named four scenarios that I think...

Seth Lugo returning to what he was two years ago, would you say that's likely or unlikely?

Unlikely.

Would you say Noah Cameron having a 2-9-9 ERA?

Unlikely.
