a series in Melbourne called Lucinda Braford with the late lamented Wendy Hughes, who was a lovely woman and a great friend of mine.

And she was as funny as a fight, you know.

And we were working on an ABC sound studio and an assistant director came over to me.

This is before we had cell phones, you know.

That's how old I am.

And he said, there's a telephone call for you.

I said, what?

There's a telephone, an overseas call.

I said, well, what do you mean an overseas call?

Who's calling?

He said, it's a Mr. James Mason.

And I thought that was really strange.

And I went over, there was a phone in the corner of the studio, and I picked it up.

And there was a very characteristic voice.

It was, hello, my name is James Mason.

My wife and I think you're really very good, and I'm going to send you a ticket.

Because I think you should be working abroad.

We think your acting is very good, and we want you to come and stay with us, and we'll find you an agent, and the ticket's on the way.
