Well, this has been i and and you know, maybe there's been slightly different uh variations of a single payer healthcare system, but this has been a an aspiration for I don't think people understand this, for over a century, uh essentially in this country. podcast-host

Tell us some of the early history of it. podcast-host

So uh, you know, we had, you know, easily particularly I mean if you measure it from uh the uh thirties with the New Deal, um it takes about thirty more years to get to the first step of incremental care at age sixty five, uh where you get uh Medicare. podcast-host

Uh that was also the advent of Medicaid, which is a podcast-host

Which is the services are good if you can find a provider uh uh uh of Medicaid. podcast-host

The Affordable Care Act was an expansion of Medicaid, or you know, that was the plan, and it was it it and it did ultimately end up getting expanded to millions of people. podcast-host

But we have not moved the ball forward really. podcast-host

It almost was just like a a band aid that in some ways, uh I don't know, I keep using these metaphors, but let the air out of the tires in some way. podcast-host

Uh and tried to sort of dull the expansion because podcast-host

I remember that fight, the the idea of just expanding Medicare to age fifty five was was at least in the air at the time and Joe Lieberman shot it down. podcast-host
