Oh, pleasure to be here, Dennis.
Thank you so much for having me.
Well, the two things that I always go back to are private eye and detective stories and novels.
And, you know, I love reading in that genre, so there's always something to discover or rediscover.
I realized last year, as I was looking through my bookshelves, that there was a Raymond Chandler novel that I'd only read once when I was a teen, The Lady and the Lake.
Just for some reason, every time I'd like to read one, I would grab a different one.
So...
rediscovering that um you know you're just pulled into the story and you just re you know you you um you're reintroduced to these characters and the stories and the style um that you love and i'm constantly reading new stuff too so just trying to keep plugged into those types of stories is one of the the ways to keep it fresh and then the other is the city and vancouver and um
trying to discuss aspects of that, which is always changing as well, but also trying to pull in things like, you know, a little bit of the sprawl outside the city, you know, the less industrialized areas and the cities in the Fraser Valley and like Abbotsford.
So as long as I can kind of, you know, have a foot in the detective story world
genre and then say something about vancouver there's always something that kind of sparks me and gets me uh you know thinking and coming up with new stuff for wickland to do and uh speaking of lady in the lake wasn't there a movie with robert montgomery in it that was sort of on first person perspective yes so it's all shot where you see him at the beginning at the end
But in the middle, the camera, like you, the audience, are in his shoes.
It's a great film.
It's a very weird film.
And I think that the film just kind of overshadowed the book.
But going back to the book, it's different but also interesting.
float homes, whatever you want to call them, all over Burrard Inlet and the Fraser River.
And there's only a few of these left.
There's one in Delta, and there's just a very small one near Granville Island.
And if you're ever around, you know, like just walking the seawall around there or taking the aqua bus across the Falls Creek, you just see these very brightly colored...
