I grew up in a northern English former mining town, which was on its knees because of the policies of Thatcher's policies of the time.
And it was a difficult time.
It's a town that I still kind of like.
feels quite betrayed by what was done to its manufacturing industry.
I was to several towns across the north of England.
And that book, yeah, it was the first book that showed me how meaning can be created between the reader and the writer, actually, how the novel can really make you understand things which no other kind of art form can do, because a novel does have that unique capacity to take you inside people's minds.
So yeah, Sons of Lovers is absolutely one of my lodestars.
