And so whenever they have to set up a new system, it's oftentimes more complicated than you would think. matched

It's actually optional for states to provide the extra $300 a week in federally funded unemployment benefits, as well as the extra $100 in state funded benefits. matched

It's unclear at this point how many states exactly are going to participate, but several states, including New York and New Jersey, have indicated, hey, this really isn't affordable for us at this time, given the fact, especially that during the pandemic, we've been losing a lot of revenue. matched

States will have to apply for the extra $300, but it's not, like you mentioned, it's not tied to states committing to paying the extra $100. matched

So it is still completely possible for a state to pay out the extra $300 in benefits, but not the extra $100. matched

You have a regular weekly unemployment benefit that the states pay out, and then the $100 would be on top of that. matched

And the regular weekly payment varies pretty drastically by state. matched

From the spring through the end of July, everyone essentially who was collecting unemployment benefits was getting an extra $600 in unemployment benefits. matched

And that was tacked on to their regular weekly unemployment benefits. matched
