So now he doesn't have to do that because he's fully staffed.
And the ability to contain COVID has actually brought a lot of workers back into the labor force.
People are less concerned about getting COVID and spreading it or they're not having to care for family members anymore.
And so they're able to work again.
The recent job market data really points to the fact that the labor market is coming back into balance after experiencing years of pandemic disruptions, rather than a labor market that is wobbling into a sharp downturn.
And I think the strong wage growth is really a testament to the fact that the labor market is still tight.
It's still strong.
Even though wages have been slowing some, they've been growing more rapidly in lower wage service sectors.
And layoffs outside of a few sectors, namely tech, have remained historically low.
Yes, women of prime working age, which is ages 25 to 54, have been returning to the labor force in recent months.
The labor force participation rate for those women actually returned to pre-pandemic early 2020 levels in January.
And that could help a lot of these service sector employers fill jobs because women have traditionally accounted for a larger share of those jobs.
An economist I spoke with said that the recovery from pandemic driven job losses will likely continue to drive job growth this year.
And he pointed to health care employers, nursing homes and child care centers as examples.

A lot of white-collar industries, think finance, technology, real estate, are pulling back on hiring.
And a lot of that has to do with the fact that these companies actually hired a ton of workers earlier in the pandemic.
Right.
So the labor market is still tight.
The unemployment rate is still low and job openings are high.
