But they are addressing the social angst part of that, right?
They know how to make it about immigrants and immigration.
And frankly, one of the reasons that right-wing parties were winning all over the globe is because of immigration, is because mass migration rose and people started crossing borders.
It doesn't matter whether we like it or not.
The point is that was the backlash from a lot of those voters.
And I see this too about Trump, and I'd say it about Mamdani.
Trump never built his wall.
When he ran in 2016, he talked about the wall all the time.
It was the centerpiece of his campaign.
Just a wall.
He was going to build a wall.
We were all like, what do you mean you're going to build a wall?
Voters didn't care if he built a wall.
What they wanted was somebody who said they were going to take immigration and border security seriously.
That is what he did.
Mamdani's does this in a different way.
I think Mamdani's policies, just like the wall, like we're just going to lower prices by having socialist grocery stores or whatever, these are dumb ideas.
These are not going to work, and they're bad ideas.
But he's taking affordability seriously.
What voters hear is, you understand that my rent is too high, you understand I can't afford to live in this city, and you're going to try to do something about it.
