The defense has said it's not reasonable to begin the state trial so soon, given that they're also preparing for a federal trial.
Mangione's lawyer, Karen Agnifilo, called it a, quote, untenable situation and said that the defense would not be ready on June 8th, to which the judge replied, be ready.
As he was being escorted out of the courtroom, 27-year-old Mangione told the judge, quote, it's the same trial twice.

Concerns about the issue of double jeopardy have been raised by the defense, but so far both the state and federal cases are proceeding on parallel tracks.
Mangione's next court appearance is scheduled for May, when the judge is expected to rule on whether key pieces of evidence are admissible in his state trial.
