During our interview together, she really struggled to label it as rape.
And so for Zoe, it was a long road to justice because
It was thanks to her family who encouraged her to press charges that she eventually did go to the police.
He was then arrested and now he is serving a 11 year prison sentence.
But it was really hard for her because, you know, the stigma attached to this as well.
When she used to go and do her shopping, the neighbors would say, well, you know, it's not that bad.
I mean, he is your husband.
After all, it wasn't like you were raped by a stranger.
So it goes to show also the ignorance when it comes to this type of crime.
And that's, you know, that's Zoe's story.
Amanda's story, Amanda Stanhope,
was more complex because she was under medication.
She had been taking sleeping tablets and he was raping her in her sleep.
He was, you know, abusing her.
And when Amanda, so he admitted it to Amanda and there was a lot of coercive control in that relationship as well.
And Amanda, when she discovered all of this, goes to the police armed with the videos and
And the police say, well, this isn't really evidence because you could be pretending to be to be asleep in the videos.
And I think that is quite revealing of of how police need better training when it comes to being able to recognize drug facilitated sexual assault.
