Or if it's a third round pick, you're saying no to it, obviously.
But,
I used this example yesterday on overrated, underrated.
Back in 2017, when the Canucks picked Elias Pettersson fifth overall, the Vegas Golden Knights had the sixth overall pick.
Vegas really wanted Cody Glass.
And they had offered Vancouver a second round pick to move up one spot so they could take Cody Glass.
Now, as the Canucks pick was coming down, they got wind that they were going to take EP40.
So they pulled the offer off the table.
But that's a...
lesson that from one spot, from six to five, the cost to go up one spot in that type of range is a second round draft pick.
So if we're talking about going from three to five and six, at the very least, we're talking multiple seconds or a first round pick value.
And that's what I would want to get back in return for me to bypass taking my favorite player or my top ranked player third overall.
If the cost is only a third, then I'm not doing it.
I'll just take the player.
Just take the guy you have number one on your list.
But because I have these guys so close, I'd rather get the extra asset and then go down a couple spots and still get one of the four guys I mentioned.
Yeah, two extra twos does not make up the value from six to three.
And that just tells you how valuable the third overall pick is.
Yeah, you're getting assets for not taking the guy or essentially you're removing the risk and you're getting a price for it.
Like it's an insurance, like you're getting paid insurance essentially.
