And when Quinn wasn't willing to give anybody any certainty, and this was like across the board,
Quinn, because he can't sign a contract until July 1st and because he was getting traded without a no trade clause, he was not going to guarantee anybody anything.
Because here's the thing, realities can change.
And why would you guarantee and promise or give somebody your word when you can't sign yet before you even go there, when you have time to let it play out?
What if you don't like it?
What if things don't work out?
But Quinn was willing to go to Detroit.
He had to be convinced to go to Minnesota.
Remember, Minnesota came up kind of out of nowhere and he was like, why Minnesota?
And he had to talk to his group and he talked to the Canucks and Bill Guerin and they convinced him that, hey, Minnesota is a good option.
Let's go to Minnesota.
And now it looks like he'll at least sign a short-term deal with the Wild at some point.
And that exact scenario could have unfolded with Detroit.
He just wasn't ready to guarantee anything.
And that's what Eisenman wanted.
And Eisenman was not willing to make that trade unless he had essentially verbal agreement on a long-term contract.
But Quinn wasn't giving out to anybody.
And that's why I think Quinn mentioned when the trade was done and he had his introductory press conference with the Minnesota Wild, he said, Bill Guerin sacked up and made the trade.
I'm not sure that was a direct shot at Eisenman, but a shot at others, whether it's the Devils, because they were interested as well, that they weren't able or ready to make the commitment without the certainty of signing him.
And we know that Larkin and Quinn are close friends.
