Not major breaking news, but still noteworthy breaking news.
Canucks general manager Ryan Johnson has just announced the Canucks have agreed to terms with forward Ilya Safanov, the big center to a two-way contract for the 2026-2027 season.
The Canucks acquired Ilya Safanov's rights, I believe, last year from Chicago Blackhawks.
and there was some talk that the team was going to sign him last year they didn't he went back and played in the khl the canucks have now agreed to terms with a six foot five 222 pound center he was a sixth round pick of the chicago blackhawks in 2011 he is 25 years old so we're not talking about somebody who is super young but still kind of in that age range and last year in kazan aka bars of the khl he played 68 games had 33 points 16 goals 17 assists and in the playoffs had 9 points in 20 games kind
of considered a big body, two-way type of player.
Obviously, when you have that type of size, there's an expectation for him to have some level of physical impact.
I don't know if he's a rough and tumble player to that extent, whereas he's nasty, but he uses his size, gets in on the forecheck, and can play center, of course.
So here's another guy in the mixed, Ilya Safanov, signing a one-year, two-way contract with the Canucks.
He was not drafted in 2011, 2021.
He was drafted and was 10 years old.
That's crazy, John and Siri.
2011 is just on the mind with all the hires.
I mean, now it depends...
how you view Q Coutts coming in next season, potentially, that he would kind of fall into that regard as well.
But yeah, Ilya Safanov.
Now we'll talk more about him as the show goes on and how he may fit in here.
But that's the breaking news.
