I've seen people make the case that, well, maybe it's better you don't get to win the lottery, and you finish second and third, and you take a longer-term approach.
I'm always of the mind of, get the best players possible.
It doesn't matter.
I know...
Jamie had a take on.
They posted on Sports in the 650 today.
I missed that one.
On Canucks Talk, and he mentioned, would you rather finish third and not have Pierre Dorian be the general manager of the team, or pick first and have Pierre Dorian be the GM?
And I'm at the point where I'm like, you need the players, man.
Because GMs come and go.
It might go sideways.
You're going through a rebuild.
There's no guarantee whoever you hire as a GM today is going to be here to see it through in four to five years anyways.
Just nail the draft pick.
Get as many high picks as you can.
And worry about all that stuff later.
I think we'd love to see the perfect situation be put together.
And that's what you're striving for when you're building a front office, of course, right?
But chances are, look at a lot of rebuilds.
The GM that makes the first pick during the first start of a rebuild is usually not there to see it through anyways.
