I've known Hal Steinbrenner for a long time and I negotiated with his father with him.

I learned something in the Juan Soto pursuit in the meeting when Hal was there is that I saw an emotional commitment

to competitiveness.

I had not seen that personally before.

That was their plan.

That's what they wanted to do.

And so the idea of being competitive, being personally committed, being involved, I've seen a transition in that and in how I think that's how he feels about his leadership with the Yankees.
