Today, we are joined by Bloomberg's Katrina Manson.
She wrote the book Project Maven: a Marine Colonel, his team in the dawn of AI Warfare, which tells the history of this story.
Hundreds of Google's AI researchers have signed a letter addressed to CEO Stinder Pesci asking that the company's AI not be used for classified military projects.
After employees
protested in twenty eighteen, Google declined to renew its contract with the military.
and introduced a set of AI principles, but the company has since walked some of those back, and it has strengthened its ties with the military.
So Katrina, what is Project Maven, first of all?
And the employees uh are saying, Wait a minute, we thought we were done with this.
They are they are fighting back.
What exactly are they doing to try and get Google to go back to its earlier commitments?
This of course uh recalls the dust up of a month or so ago between the White House, the Pentagon, and Anthropic.
And it seems like this is happening again and again in Silicon Valley.
