And so the R&A thought, hang on, we're more senior, far more royal.

At that point, they weren't in the current clubhouse.
That was built, I think, 1854 was the,
The railway opened in 1852, and two years later, the current RNA Clubhouse as we know it was built.
And at that point, try to imagine this, that the current First Fairway didn't exist.
If you could imagine a line from the left-hand side, the town side of the RNA Clubhouse, all the way down to the left side of the current First Green, that was beach.
And it was really from 1854 up until the Bruce Embankment was finished in 1897.
That was when that started to get wider.
So there was a really dynamic period in that point.
Old Tom Morris had gone to Presswick.
He'd come back in 1864.
And then we had a 10-year period where lots changed.
The 18th Green was built and opened in 1869.
Within a couple of years, the first green, which has been another mystery, I think we've solved that now, it never existed.
It sort of emerged as the whole.
Remember...
At this point, the 17th green was a double green, so it had two holes cut in it.
And the one closest to the burn, as you play the old course in reverse, the one you play to, that started to move towards the sea because there were washerwomen there and they were trampling down the grasses.
