And I wanted to come back and learn more about it.
So I had a lot of knowledge from reading, from talking with Peter and from reading the incredible library that it was Thompson Woolwich Parrot was the name of the company in those days.
And so when I came, I thought, great, this is a wonderful place to be.
And Peter had written a really nice letter, an introduction letter to Michael Benalik at the time.
And so I called up the RNA and said, look, you know, I've got this letter and if there's a chance to meet Mr. Benalik, I'd really appreciate it.
So I got invited into the trophy room and sat down with Michael and he said, Scott, what do you want to do?
And I said, well, I'd like to stay with the golf course design.
He said, oh, well, actually, there's a new resort planned for St.
Andrews.
And this is in August of 1998.
And the new resort is now Fairmont St.
Andrews.
It was St.
Andrews Bay at that time, but they didn't have planning permission.
But I was invited to a meeting.
One of the great things about that meeting, which was in Younger Hall, I'm sure anybody in the audience here will know Younger Hall,
the great Gene Sarazin was there.
He'd been flowing over with the developer, a guy in pharmaceuticals called Don Panos, made his money inventing the nicotine patch.
So he'd flown Gene Sarazin over, and they had a resort in Atlanta called Chateau Alain.
So I had a bit of a heads up.
