I was doing his PhD at the university and he said, well, and I was like, I really a bit of a loose end, despite having met Jean, we weren't sure how things would go.

And I,

all my parents had said, I don't know what to do.

And they said, well, why don't you just stay?

So I thought, well, what am I going to do?

It was quite a long, we didn't actually know it was going to be a year at that point, but it was.

So I ended up caddying.

And my friend who was at university, that's what they did in the summer.

So I thought, great.

I've done a little bit on the Australasian tour so I can carry a bag.

And so I went down to the caddy master.

It was a guy called Rick McKenzie.

Anybody remember Rick McKenzie?

Yeah.

gruff old character looked at me up and down he said you don't look like you'd be much of a caddy sounds like a good caddy master he was probably right actually fine sight uh and uh and i said well i'm not sure how good i'd be rick to be honest with you uh but i like the game and he said uh well what have you been doing with yourself and i said well i've been working for peter thompson peter thompson you're in

So that led to caddying for a year.

I think we did about 300 rounds, 220 of them or something on the old course.

And it was a great experience.

I mean, to learn the old course and go round and round with these older guys mainly.

And I started at the bottom as a bag carrier.
