I heard from readers who said in Hawaii, which obviously has become a very popular destination and obviously very tight supply there, prices were quoted at $800 a day kind of thing. matched

Well, it's, you know, Hawaii is an interesting case because international travel is so restricted that domestic destinations and a domestic beach destination. matched

We've seen certainly seen this in Florida, but a lot of people going to Hawaii with their with their negative covid tests in hand and having a wonderful time. matched

It's expensive to rent a car there at any time. matched

And certainly you could see how the used car market in Hawaii may have been very hot and very enticing to sell cars that were just sitting there during the pandemic anyway. matched

Good to get them off the lot. matched

And now you may be wishing they had them back on the lot. matched

I think they need to build in time. matched

As you say, a lot of people are reporting that even when they have a reservation, even when they have a prepaid car, they get there and there are no cars. matched

And so you end up in a line of people waiting for a car to come back on the lot and be returned and then cleaned and fueled and put back into service. matched

You know, a lot of people are finding the, you know, used to be you could just run up to the lot, pick a car, and you were out of there in five minutes. matched

And so you need to plan for, you know, the possibility that you may have to wait an hour or more to get your car even when you have it. matched

I think the other thing that people really need to do is think of the car first, particularly for the summer when they're making travel plans. matched

So it may be that you're going to take a different flight because of when you can get a car. matched

It may be that you're going to go to a different airport because of the availability of cars. matched

So, you know, the car is often an afterthought to a trip, but I think that probably needs to be the first booking that you make. matched
