There is at least some sincerity within Mercedes to the notion that they'll get caught at some point this season or the gap will be reduced significantly.
And what you don't want when you've got a car and an engine and a package like they've got at the moment is you don't want the margin eroded.
Like right now, it's just nice for them to know that even if they have a bad start, if this goes wrong, one of their cars will get back and win.
And so far, they have a better record than they don't at finishing first and second, even when the race doesn't go completely smoothly.
And if that margin gets eroded, then the task becomes harder.
What is interesting is anybody that's not planned, you know, like a transformational massive upgrade or loads of, you know, big new trick or following a big design trend or something like that.
So a Mercedes, a Haas, whatever.
What have they been working on and what have they been able to refine?

brake has afforded that team is right understanding why a front wing upgrade made a bigger impact than the team basically expected it to why did this work so well what did it teach them about car development how can they then refine that nicely to get even more out of it when the car runs again but also then what development path does it set the team down on and if you've got that little bit of lap time in the bank which is some lovely currency at this stage of the season maybe you
you could afford to not push through something for Miami that's maybe as big in scope as it could have been because you've got something else coming in the medium term, which you've been able to put that attention on.
And as Ed said, you get an extra few weeks in the wind tunnel or whatever it is, you're just going to be, if you're getting a nice development curve or return curve for the development that you're doing, that could pay off after Miami.
And it could be that it's nice and close in Miami and you think, oh, this team slipped back a little bit.
And actually, the picture's going to change again when we've had another short mini-break before Canada and then other races beyond that into the European season.
It's fascinating.
There's so many plates being spun at the moment by the teams.
And what we see in Miami could make us think, oh, wow, this has changed completely from the first three races.
It could be an illusion.
And within that, I mean, I did ask Oscar Piastri this, and he sort of sidestepped it and flipped it more towards that car deficit that we've mentioned already.
So it will depend on what step they've made on the car side.
