It's almost you know, w I don't want to jump forward in an incongruous way to modern history, but this idea that you're just searching for some kind of end or or some side it feels very much like a sort of modernist
almost Pikettian kind of universe where there is actually no real purpose, but you can kind of invent a fictive purpose that might keep you going for a bit.
So um he talks about um his own um investment in this uh quest that as a chivalric knight he is committed to, even though it seems very, very vague what exactly the quest is, apart from uh arriving at the Dark Tower.
And one of the interesting things is that the entire prehistory of attempts at this quest for the for the Dark Tower in verse seven
is a history of failure.
Um
I had so long suffered in this quest, heard failure prophesied so oft, been writ so many times among quote the band.
So there are lots of people around who talk about this group of hopeless knights who've tried to get to the dark tower, and they're called the band, and they're all hopeless and they never managed to do it.
And they all associate Roland with with the band.
So uh I
Again, it's a kind of baquettid interest, isn't it?
In in the whole, as it were, psychology or the whole kind of existential
um phenomenon of failure as as the defining characteristic of human life.
