I didn't consciously have that statement in my head when I started out.

But that's always been...

My feeling, you know, we're there to serve the viewer.

And we should be talking about what I think the viewer's thinking about as they watch the game.

I try to put myself in their situation.

And if I was watching the game, what would I be thinking about?

I'd be thinking about, why isn't this coach going for this fourth down?

That wasn't a very good call.

Didn't look like pass interference to me.

You know, so I try to talk about what I'd be thinking about if I was watching the game here.

So...

Those are the things that I've learned.

And then the other part of it is work hard.

This isn't hard work.

We're not digging ditches, and I don't mean to go with all the cliches.

But you can put a lot of time and effort into the preparation for these games, or you can put almost zero time and effort into it and show up.

I try to work hard at it.

I don't mean to be immodest.

I think my peers and the people I work with, my colleagues, would say that.

If anything, I should probably get out of the hotel room every now and then and go have dinner with the group and rather than sit there and try to, you know, read one more article or watch one more tape.
