um or in the form of like something like ai with you know kind of chat gbt just the quality of the answers and the breadth of what you could do with it was like 10 times better than searching the internet and trying to get an answer right there's just no question about it um and so i think you really have to look at what customers value because you could make something 10 times better on a dimension that no one really cares about you know like some things are cheap enough if you made it 10 times cheaper no one's going to really go and buy your product
It's like Apple launching the cheaper laptop last week.
Correct.
There's diminishing returns, right, in terms of some value.
yeah so i mean the thing that's crazy about google i i joined google in 2011 and um it was after my third startup failed um and so i always what happened the other two what are the other two so the the first one was a mobile phone um software company and this was just when the mobile phone was coming out i thought it was magic there's nothing i wanted to do more than just program and build apps for the mobile phone
We were literally one of the first mobile gaming companies in the world.
So we licensed a bunch of BBC micro games, and we sat down and built games for the Nokia handset, had installable games for the first time in about 2001, where you could actually write code and run it on the handset.
Yes, Snake came pre-installed.
So we were building the next version of Snake.
Everyone loves Snake because it was the only game there.
And so we were the first ones to have installable games that you could download over the mobile phone network.
And it was absolutely the right idea.
Like, there's no question that, you know, apps on mobile phones was the right idea.
The problem was we were, you know, eight years too early.
And having the right idea and being early is the same thing as being wrong.
So, you know, there maybe were like 50,000 phones that could run our game at the time.
um and globally uh in in europe when we were in the uk when we were selling them there um they were hard to install or something i'm trying to remember they're very hard to install is this weird thing called wap which was the first version of mobile internet yeah and you had to send a text message and get a link and click the link and then install the app um and then the mobile phone network would charge you so they'd charge you like you know five bucks or ten bucks for the for the app
I remember this now.
We don't realize is that when they sold an app for five bucks, we would get like 50 cents.
