I was having flashbacks as you were talking about it.

It was literally like a filing cabinet.

You had to go through and chuck...

Because you'd have to go through or someone sends you 10 photos and you're like, just delete.

Yeah, exactly.

So storage is a big problem.

But that was a 20% project.

And then, you know, Google's entire workspace product that is now, you know, billions and millions of dollars of revenue, you know, was based off that one nugget of an engineer saying, hey, I'm going to build a better email product.

wow so you then honed your experimentation process in google so i built um a better crm system for google that wasn't my first kind of year i saw was working with all the sales teams um the original crm product was like somewhat abandoned and you know unloved no engineer in silicon valley really wanted to work on the crm for the sales team

But I was sitting there in the office, and the salespeople were like, they hated it.

It was so obvious they weren't using it.

They had their own spreadsheets, and everyone was giving out about it.

And so it was just like, okay, guys, hold my beer.

I'm going to build a new CRM.

and so you know i just started like building it i found this is the great thing about google i just kind of i asked the hr lady i'm like does anyone have a computer science degree in the sales team and she like pulls up the file she's like yeah there are like 10 people that have computer science degrees that are literally like doing cold calling outbound work wow and i just went and like tapped a couple up on the shoulder i'm like let's do this guys let's build some software and so we built like a software team inside the sales organization once we did the 20 and we showed what we could do they said can you do this full time

wow and so you made it almost like you made like your own little startup inside in the sales so my 20 project when i arrived turned into a fully funded team amazing and we built google's second version of its crm product which is now the one powering all of google sales org geez um and we built it in like eight weeks and i gave it to like 20 sales people and they loved it so much that by the end of the quarter the entire european sales team was using it

and the guys in california were calling us up and saying what the hell is this we didn't we didn't say you could build this and we're like it's too late everyone's using it okay but it was like that one of the magic is a builder the first the most magic thing is is when you build something and people love

Well, this is the crazy thing about Google.

So I'm like sitting in Dublin helping to build CRM software.

And Waymo at the time was the kind of Google car project.
