And based as a response, like there's nothing, there's nothing special about the way we do product management.

You said what is special is that we have a culture where the speed and volume of experimentation at Amazon is insanely higher than every other organization.

So speed plus volume.

Speed and volume of experimentation, right?

So there are some companies where they're like, yeah, we funded some big bets.

But the big bet is we're going to put 10 people on this idea and they're going to have like...

12 months to build and then another 12 months to go and launch it and if it doesn't work out it's fine you know that's like the kind of like slow waterfall way of doing a bet which is you know like let's get the product guys together the designers the engineers so i'm like okay that's not the way that you kind of test stuff so how should we do it like you have a thesis you have a question you want to answer

So like when we were at Google X, the whole structure was you want to take the mindset of how do I disprove this is going to work as fast as possible?

Okay.

The question is how do I disprove?

Correct.

So most people, when they have an idea that they like, what they tend to do is try to prove it's going to work.

When you're in that proof mindset, you fall in this trap of like wishful thinking and bias.

Like you so want this thing to work out that you ignore the negative signals.

And this is one of the main reasons why a lot of startups fail is that a founder so wants this idea to work that they look at all of the positive signals and they overemphasize them.

And then they ignore all of the negative feedback or they try to justify it away.

Um, and so they end up basically pursuing the wrong problem, um, because they're trying to prove that their idea and the thing that they built is the right thing.

That's really interesting.

Even the way you said, I was like, yes, really.

So when you disprove it, your mindset is I need to look for signals that this isn't going to work.
