They have worked at average companies and they've done an average performance there.

You can see it from the timing.

You can see it from their titles.

They're great.

But there's nothing in the CV that shows that they're going to have the potential to have a 1%.

you know, out there.

And, you know, at this stage in your career, if you haven't seen it, it's unlikely it's going to happen.

So yes, we could hire them and they will be an average employee.

And because the bar is so high at Stripe, they would be well below average.

And so it's like, that's the thing.

You've got to just ask the question, like, have you ever had an achievement or done something where you've just like had a 1% outcome?

Yeah.

And then I always, this is the, one of the things that made Stripe such an amazing place to work is that, um,

You ask about failure and humility and self-reflection.

And it's a very low ego environment.

So you ask them about that in the interview?

Yes.

So often you'll find that there are people with high intellectual horsepower and high achievements.

But you can very quickly tell that they're going to be the kind of people you just don't want to work with.
