Oh, you keep telling that story.
I mean, tragically, but also ironically, their efforts to erase it shows its power.
Right.
Same thing I tell young people about their vote.
Oh, voting doesn't matter.
Well, if it doesn't matter, why are people trying so hard
To make it difficult.
Obviously, they've seen your power.
And so we have to keep telling the stories.
You know, I'm a part of a generation of children whose parents were fighting for the MLK birthday to be a holiday.
I remember when it wasn't a holiday.
And I was an elementary school student and there was a movement.
Stevie Wonder and others were involved when he made the famous birthday song.
And before they made it a holiday, our parents pulled us out of school.
Someone needs to tell that story because it was happening in Georgia all across the country.
They pulled us out of school on Dr. King's birthday.
And we spent all day in churches and at the local YMCA, in lock-ins, learning about the movement.
All day.
Our parents took responsibility for that.
So I'm saying that Donald Trump doesn't own this history.
