A bat, for instance, not only can't wonder whether it's Friday, it can't even wonder whether it's a bat.
There's no role for wondering to play in its cognitive structure.
While a bat, even like the lolly lobster, has a biological self, it has no selfie self to speak of, no center of narrative gravity, or at most a negligible one.
No words on the tip of its tongue, but also no regrets, no complex yearnings, no nostalgic reminiscences, no grand schemes, no reflections on what it is like to be a cat, or even on what it was like to be a bat.
This list of dismissals would be cheap skepticism if we didn't have a positive empirical theory on which to base it.

I would have said that we could of course talk about what it's like to be a bat, but that's a, has a number of qualifications of the steps away from it that are tied to our own narrative experience about accounting for what it's like to be anything.
And so it will always be sort of grounded in our own.
And I take what Chris is saying is that there's actually something that I want to point to that I find that is, I take you to be saying that is inaccessible to me from a narrative perspective, that is what it's like to be a bat for itself, that it has its own set of experiences, even if they have no narrative content, even if they have no self-awareness of the bat having its own bat experience.
And to me, if I go down this route, I would say I have to be able to say exactly the same thing about an atom, right?
