The second was about the student exchange scheme.
And I think that's the most substantial change, although it might impact fewer numbers of students.
So Erasmus Plus was the ability to go and study and work in Europe and then and vice versa as well.
And we lost that ability to be part of the scheme.
Boris Johnson had said that we would retain access to that scheme in 2020.
And a few months later, we left because it was deemed to be kind of too expensive to be part of.
From 1987 to Brexit, hundreds of thousands of UK students went to Europe and studied as part of that scheme.
And very, very quickly we lost that ability.
The biggest positive really was that whereas with Erasmus we saw huge disparities in terms of if you're a disadvantaged student, so a student from, say, a working class background, you are far less likely to go and study abroad.
And part of the idea behind Turing was to counteract that.
So they had targets around what proportion of students accessing the scheme should be from a disadvantaged background.
And I would say the biggest difficulty was...
the bureaucracy that came with it and the very short-term decisions.
So often universities wouldn't hear until the summer whether they were going to get funding for that student to go and study, whereas they're meant to start in September, say.
And of course, these big exchanges between universities, you're moving a student to another country, you've got to get visas sorted, travel costs, that takes more than, say, a month, six weeks notice.
And so that was very difficult in terms of uncertainty for the students who are trying to access that scheme, but also for the universities as well.
I'm feeling broadly more positive.
I think, as we've discussed, that period of uncertainty was the most damaging.
And it also came at a time of, you know, very shortly after COVID, cost of living crisis.
And I think it's important to keep in mind that that's cumulative.
