The products have been positioned as desirable or cool, and they've even been suggested as a Christmas gift.
UPF ads are not so different.
Think bright, colourful boxes decorated with cartoon characters containing lunch bars.
So could we one day see these food ads regulated the same as tobacco companies?
These ultra processed foods sometimes come with labels on the front that say no artificial colors or flavors, no added sugars or that they're all natural.
Are we being misled by these labels that they're putting on this packaging?
Absolutely.
Because these foods are so readily accessible, in your conversation piece, it was stated that 70% of packaged food products on our supermarket shelves are ultra-processed foods.
And they're so, I think when it comes down to being, for instance, a parent or someone who's on the go, they're so easily accessible and also a lot cheaper than whole foods.
How are we as consumers meant to purchase the more whole food, healthier option when these options of ultra processed foods are so readily available and so much cheaper?
And what can the government do to help make these foods more readily accessible or reduce consumption of ultra-processed foods?
And Kelly, are you tired of having to kind of get these messages out time and time again?
