So I come from carny folk.
Yeah, so the joke is โ
Big fingers and we smell like cabbage, like hardworking, but we couldn't afford decent food.
Yeah, if they've got big fingers and they smell like cabbage, they're probably a carny like us.
I wasn't even born, so it was my grandfather that had the rides.
They had the Cherriplane ride, which is a โ
rudimentary little pull-start motor with some chairs on chains that would swing around, you know, the chair-a-planes, knock a dolly, win a lolly, all that kind of stuff.
So they toured country Victoria and probably even into southern New South Wales with the circus.
But my grandfather died in front of my dad when my dad was eight and my auntie was one.
He, in fact, watched his little sister crawl over to the body.
So they were carny folk and then that stopped.
In an instant, so all they had was a tent and a block of land in Marybenong and he was, you know, one of many, many of seven of them.
So they had to come back to the property and
and pitched the tent and they lived in it until my dad was 21, you know.
He had just nothing.
He loved his youth.
