But it's funny that some of that mentality, I think he was ultimately just trying to protect me.
But he gave me an alternative to be like, look, you can do all of that stuff, but you just can't have the negativity in it.
Even though my friends was doing what they was doing, I was still a knucklehead, but I knew I had boundaries.

And I think that's where the comedy leaned in, where I was like, I knew I could make everybody laugh.
And I was still getting in trouble and stuff like that, but I wasn't doing what everybody else was doing.
And I feel like I appreciated my dad for saving me from that life because a lot of the people that were my peers just aren't around anymore.
Were there certain things that you could watch on television, you couldn't watch on television, what you could listen to on the radio, what you could and couldn't wear?
Yeah, the crazy thing, I couldn't do anything.
And it's funny.
You wouldn't let you watch any TV?
No, like we had to watch like Bruce Lee movies.
Like that was the only thing we had.
VHSes and like mad kung fu movies and stuff like that.
But yeah, we didn't have cable.
We didn't.
It was just it was it was either that or, you know.
the Lord's content, you know what I mean?
It was, you know, we had all the animated Bible stories and all that stuff, but interestingly enough, and I actually shared this with Arsenio Hall when we first got together, is that my dad, I used to sneak up and watch the, you know, late at night, cause my dad would be at work, watch Arsenio Hall.
