We want to talk about there's all different sort of treatments out there or therapy approaches or products that have really big claims, specifically in the autism spaces where I come across a lot of them.
But I think in the world of social media,
Yeah, we all can benefit from how to be like conscious consumers.
and how to evaluate things.
Um and so today's podcast is not about being skeptical.
Um, but it is about really diving into what is the research behind that.
And I guess that's probably uh the number one question that we're hoping to answer today about a couple of common questions that we get from families that are thinking about trying out uh treatments or different options for their child that has autism or ADHD.
Sometimes it's just like a uh in quotation marks, like a hyper kid.
And they're like, Oh yeah, I saw this supplement online.
It says it helps uh children.
Um
And so today what we really want to do is go through some uh real examples of that uh with things that families are asking us about so that hopefully it's useful to other families.
Yeah.
And I would say like I have a master's degree.
Um, and a I got a large chunk of my master's degree was on how to do uh research and what is involved in a good intervention.
Um and then as a behavior analyst, sort of one of my uh specialties is looking at that and seeing if there is good control there and are they inf making inferences versus there being like actual causal relationships.
Um and so it's not for the lay person.
Um and that's really like something that we study a lot um in as um in your master's degree for behavior analysis, really diving into research and how to evaluate it.
And then I think for myself, being I started my career in the autism world and continue in the autism world, there are so many new things coming out for autism all the time.
Um, that again, I get to flex that muscle kind of a lot.
