So they'd be like, great.
Because otherwise it's like, well, I'll be happy when I'm in an investment banker or when I get this PhD or when I have something else.
We had to relate it to what they cared about in the first place.
And then once we've opened that door, then it allows us to start that process of evaluating what actually leads to the outcomes that we want within our lives.
And some of those, I think, are the ones you described.
It's like, do you have a best friend at work?
Do you feel optimistic?
Do you feel like your work is meaningful?
Do you feel like there's something greater than you?
But a few years ago, you and I were both speaking at a conference together and we got to do a dialogue with one another and it was great.
And we turned it into a debate and I think I lost it at the end.
And I'm curious if you've doubled down or if you've changed over time at all.
But we were talking about the happiness advantage and one of the things you said that you didn't buy, and I'm putting it out stronger than you said, you said it much nicer.
But what you feel like motivates you to perform well is this fear that I'm not going to be able to get this project done in time or the fear of,
what if I let these people down if I don't get this book in or the fear of failing causes you to drive to make sure you get that work actually done.
And it butts up against that optimism or positivity moves you in that direction.
And if it's true, how do we like, I don't want my kids to fear failure, but also when I look at these incredible athletes,
The best ones always say, I hate losing.
So I'm really curious how you synthesize it now.
