One concern I have is that this contract expires in a few months and the county sort of finalizes its budget March, April, that time frame.
So it's almost like do we have another choice?
Can we get something, an alternative or another option in terms of for the next year?
Yeah, I do have some comments to make.
I'm not sure...
There's much sense in trying to explain the county situation.
They bought the hospitals, and we've been reading in the papers every day that their budget situation is pretty dire.
And it's also fairly obvious that some of their budget problems are being offloaded
in areas where they can, and obviously the sheriff's costs that the city's paying for is one of them.
So I don't know where we are going from here, what the next step is, but we should probably be looking into the services that the sheriff provides now and see if we can reduce their services.
And I don't know if you want to go into details, but I was just looking at some of their charts, and there, for example, there's a traffic sergeant, and we are paying half a million dollars for the sergeant, and the other two cities are zero zero.
So what does a traffic sergeant do and why is he only servicing us?
That was one question.
And then, you know, this is just a suggestion and I'm sure you will get to these in your discussions.
You know, in some cities, the crossing guards, for example, are paid for by the police department.
I know San Jose's crossing guards are paid by the city of San Jose.
is that something we can transfer or offload from our budget to the sheriff?
And I'm not sure how much the crossing guards cost us.
Jonathan, do you have that number handy?
it.
