And of course, then as the story progresses, then it becomes really interesting and thought-provoking because it raises questions about, well, what happens when we're ageless and we have these radically extended lifespans?
Then we have to have a negotiation about
monogamy or the idea that we change and evolve.
Like maybe we have many lifetimes.
So then maybe we have many marriages that each last 150 years.
And so I thought that was like a very interesting and compelling thing.
I certainly, as somebody of many interests imagine that if we have radical longevity,
We're going to become definitely intellectually promiscuous.
We're going to have promiscuity in our careers and interests and whatnot.
But I also think we might become polyamorous in a new kind of way.
So I don't, you know, I don't agree with the actions taken by the male protagonist where he was like, I'd rather die than date somebody else.
I mean, for all I know, they can still stay friends with the ex and just go, you know.
So that's what I was like, what the hell?
You're going to choose death?
death?
Do you know something I don't?
But yeah, and I also the idea that the state would say that if you opt not to switch partners punishment is death, that seemed like I don't see why that would be the case.
Why does it have to be so harsh?
If we have radical abundance, then you should have radical freedom of choice.
So that's the only part that didn't sit well with me.
