But there is another population of Xyria caveniae a few kilometres away that can.

So Angelina is taking the pollen from these healthier shrubs and hand fertilizing the struggling ones, like she said, sperm donors.

If the fertility treatment has been successful, over the past two months the plant would have borne fruit.

The fruit would have dropped into the bag, broken down, and left a seed in its wake.
