Saka Jawea was a legend for a reason.
While she was still a teenager and carrying her infant son, she helped guide the Lewis and Clark expedition through thousands of miles of unfamiliar and very dangerous territory.
She was an interpreter, a cultural bridge, and an essential part of that historic journey.
Yet her contributions were too often reduced to a footnote.
